D.C. Day 2

I went to the back of the joint so as not to embarrass Dubya, but they were working on the lawn ...

... so I parked around the front and went in like respectable folks do when they come to visit.

With all of the brilliant architecture here ...

... it makes you wonder about the construction of things today.

Even the light fixtures are extraordinary around some of these historic marvels, but I have to ask ...

... WHAT IS UP WITH THIS?

If you're talking about the two different colors of stone . . . I know the answer. They tell you on the tour -- the monument was started prior to the Civil War. Once war broke out, construction was halted. After the war was over and construction began again, the confederates had destroyed the original quarry where the stone was being mined. Rather than waste time & money tearing down what they started, they evened the existing blocks and continued with different material. Now you know the rest of the story.
